Marina Access Limited Due to Silt Accumulation

Marina Access Limited Due to Silt Accumulation

UPDATE 12 AUG 2024 – Members, we’ve been alerted that silt has been blown out of the marina mouth, and that sailboats are once again able to exit the marina. We still advise members to use caution, particularly on boats drafting more than 4′.

See below for the initial statement from July 9th, 2024:

Dear Members,

Despite the encouraging rise in water levels this year, it is with a heavy heart that we must announce that only boats drafting less than 4′ can currently navigate out of the marina.

Recent northern winds have caused an unfortunate buildup of silt directly at the mouth of the marina, hindering deeper draft boats from making their way out. This development is particularly disheartening given the renewed excitement and increased activity following the success of Sailfest 2024 and the return of our beloved club’s vibrant community after years of low water levels.

We understand the frustration and disappointment this situation brings, especially as we were all looking forward to a season of unrestricted sailing.

We will keep you updated on any progress and look forward to seeing you on the water soon.

Sincerely,
Great Salt Lake Yacht Club
